Meet
Abdul Buhari

From Vision to Victory

Discover the inspiring journey of Abdul Buhari, a distinguished British Olympian and Wealth Advisor, whose life story is a testament to resilience, success, and purpose. Born in Nigeria, Abdul’s path began with humble roots and was marked by a relentless drive to achieve his dreams.

Olympic Career

Abdul's passion for athletics emerged in his teenage years after moving to the UK. A natural talent for discus throwing led him to join the Herne Hill Harriers and Newham & Essex Beagles athletics clubs. His dedication and skill earned him national titles in 2011, placing him 5th on Britain’s all-time list. Representing Great Britain in discus, Abdul competed at the 2012 London Olympics, the World Championships, and the European Championships.

Although Abdul retired from competitive athletics in 2014, he remains deeply connected to the sports world. As a co-founder of the Athlete Alumni, Abdul supports athletes transitioning out of their sports careers. He is also active in British Athletics, England Athletics, and UK Athletics, contributing his experience and passion to the next generation of athletes.

Philanthropy

Abdul’s commitment to advocacy is fuelled by a desire to create lasting positive change. Through his ambassadorship with the Personal Best Foundation, he promotes youth development by encouraging young people to discover their potential and resilience through sports. The foundation emphasises the importance of sports in shaping confidence, discipline, and life skills among youth. Similarly, Abdul’s work with the British Inspiration Trust (BRIT) focuses on mental health, providing young adults with resources to build mental resilience, a cause close to his heart as a former athlete who understands the challenges athletes face.

To further this mission, Abdul co-founded the Lloyd Cowan Bursary, named in honour of the renowned athletics coach, which provides crucial funding and resources to disadvantaged athletes and coaches across the UK. This bursary is especially impactful for athletes who may face financial obstacles in their careers, allowing them to access training, mentorship, and opportunities for growth. Through these roles, Abdul leverages his experiences to mentor and uplift others, ensuring that aspiring athletes and young people have the support they need to thrive.

Finance Career

Alongside his athletic achievements, Abdul has built a successful career in wealth management. Abdul began his career in the investment bank supporting fixed income high yield traders in both London and New York. After the 2012 Olympics, he shifted to private banking, advising high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients, as well as family offices. Today, he helps clients manage their wealth, develop investment strategies, and achieve financial planning goals with a focus on personalised, strategic guidance.
